چکیده

Cigarette smoking is the most widespread form of drug abuse due to the addictive properties of nicotine present in tobacco. Via binding to specific receptors, known as nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs), nicotine activates the mesolimbic dopamine (DA) system, which is hypothesised to be the final common pathway shared by rewarding stimuli in the brain. In addition to the mesolimbic dopaminergic system, nicotine also targets the nigrostriatal DA system along with several other neurotransmitter systems in the brain, and it is the convergence of these different stimuli that most probably contributes to the pharmacological effects of

Comparing of the Effects of Hypericin and Synthetic Antidepressants on the Expression of Morphine-Induced Conditioned Place Preference

The effect of hypericin on the expression of morphine-induced conditioned place preference (CPP) was investigated and compared with the effect of the synthetic antidepressants. The CPP paradigms took place over six days using an unbiased procedure. The results demonstrate that intra-peritoneal (IP) injection of morphine sulfate (2.5, 5 and 10 mg/Kg) significantly induce the CPP in rat. Intra-pe...

P152: Neurotoxicants and Mechanisms Neurodegenerative in Acrylamide

Many chemicals with broad industrial, pharmaceutical and agricultural application produce a neurotoxic syndrome in humans and experimental animals involving weight loss, skeletal muscle weakness and ataxia. Neurotoxicity is defined as a structural change or a functional alteration of the nervous system resulting from exposure to a chemical, biological or physical agent. Neurotoxicity including ...

Evidence of alpha 7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor expression in retinal pigment epithelial cells.

Some evidence suggests that retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) can express nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) as described for other epithelial cells, where nAChRs have been involved in processes such as cell development, cell death, cell migration, and angiogenesis. This study is designed to determine the expression and activity of α7 nAChRs in RPE cells. Reverse transcriptase (RT)-PCR w...

Nicotinic receptors in addiction pathways.

Neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) are ligand-gated ion channels that consist of pentameric combinations of α and β subunits. These receptors are widely distributed throughout the brain and are highly expressed in addiction circuitry. The role of nAChRs in regulating neuronal activity and motivated behavior is complex and varies both in and among brain regions. The rich diversi...
